About Us

How We Help

and Who We Are

Nanoskew helps game developers expand their audience to include the hundreds of millions of players with disabilities worldwide, by showing them how to create, extend, and enhance accessibility features in their games.

We offer the critical benefits of more traditional accessibility consulting and evaluation, along with a unique combination of skills and approaches that game companies require, combined with some elements that they may not realize they need:

Nanoskew brings a deep understanding of the needs of disabled players, alongside industry-leading expertise in accessible design. Our focus is on broad challenges commonly faced by all aspects of disability, while customizing solutions that fit each game.

Our experience in design and development, and comprehensive knowledge of creative pipelines, means that Nanoskew can speak the language of developers and prioritize solutions that work within existing development cycles.

With knowledge of design and development, Nanoskew brings experiences and approaches used by testing and evaluation firms, without the large overhead and significant costs that put these firms out of reach for studios with tighter budgets.

Nanoskew is more agile and can implement customized approaches that more easily work within the different structures found in smaller teams, while also providing expertise that fits into the more traditional pipelines of larger teams.

Nanoskew has a background in advocacy, working directly with the non-profits in the disability space, ensuring that the needs of players with disabilities are met.

Nanoskew brings an extensive background in education to help instill accessibility principles directly within game studios and their individual developers, through customized approaches to learning, including but not limited to trainings and workshops.

Nanoskew is uniquely suited to guide game developers and studios through their accessibility journey, leading them to the significant benefits within.

Prior to founding Nanoskew, I served as the Vice President for Game Accessibility & Operations at The AbleGamers Charity, where I directly educated and consulted with thousands of game developers regarding accessible design, regularly engaging in deep discussions over ways of implementing and altering game features to make them more playable for those with disabilities. Since leaving AbleGamers, I wanted to work even closer with game developers to help them start, improve, or strengthen their accessibility offerings.

My background as an educator, with roughly 15 years as a college professor teaching digital media and game development, allows me to convey complicated ideas and instill an understanding of game accessibility and how it relates to any role or situation in a studio. Further, my extensive knowledge of both games and game development, alongside my MFA in digital art, means that I have a thorough understanding of all aspects of game development, and ensures that I can brainstorm and help problem-solve design issues related to integrating accessibility solutions into a game without sacrificing the developer’s intent.

I founded Nanoskew to offer the full suite of services required to effectively and efficiently implement game accessibility features for the disabled community.

Founder & CEO

My personal motto is “I am here to help," which is at the heart of everything Nanoskew does.

Regardless of what role we fill or what services we are delivering, I want Nanoskew to provide useful and beneficial work for developers, maximizing the impact of their games. My primary aim is that of assistance, both for our clients, and to ensure that as many players as possible can play their games.

I have no separate agenda; my goal is to help.

Steve Weitz

At Nanoskew we speak the lingo of developers in any role, and understand the challenges they face, while also seeing connections between different teams working on a single game to help provide solutions to accessibility issues that are elegant and easily integrated into the developers’ vision for their game. Personally, as a life-long educator, I always take care to convey accessibility knowledge to developers in a clear but robust way, allowing them to work smarter.
